ED treatment in Metairie
When Viagra and Cialis stop working
ED pills work very well for many men, but not for everyone, and some men find they stop working. If that’s where you are, you still have options. At Aspire’s physician-led clinic in Metairie, a licensed provider looks at what’s behind your ED and talks through what to try next, including ED injections and Soundwave Therapy.*

Why ED pills can stop working
ED pills help blood flow when you are aroused. When they stop working, it usually helps to look at the whole picture. Common reasons include:
- How they’re taken: timing, dose, and heavy meals can make a difference.
- Blood flow: high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes can all play a part.
- Prostate issues: an enlarged prostate or prostate surgery can affect erections.
- Other medicines: some prescriptions can affect erections.
- Stress and confidence: once erections feel unreliable, worry can make things harder.
If anything points to low testosterone or another condition, we will tell you and, where needed, point you to your primary care doctor or a specialist.
What to try next
- Reviewing your ED medication. Your provider looks at what you’ve tried, how you took it, and your health history. See ED medication.
- ED injections. They work directly in the penis, so they don’t depend on the same pathway as pills. Many men who don’t respond well to pills do well with injections. Your first dose is given in our clinic, where we teach the technique. See ED injections.
- Soundwave Therapy. An in-office option some men consider. See how Soundwave Therapy works and what the evidence says.
- Combining treatments. Your provider can talk through whether a combination makes sense for you.

What happens at your first visit
Your first visit is a free, private consultation and exam with a licensed provider, usually 30–45 minutes, at our Metairie clinic. Tell us what’s going on and what you’ve already tried. Bring a list of your medications and any recent lab work if you have it. See what to expect at your first visit.
Safety first
- ED pills must not be taken with nitrates or riociguat, and need care with alpha-blockers.
- With any ED injection, an erection lasting more than 4 hours is a medical emergency. Get care right away.
- Your provider reviews your health history and current medicines before prescribing anything.
Questions about ED pills that stopped working
Why did Viagra stop working for me?
Common reasons include how and when it’s taken, changes in blood flow, health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, prostate issues, other medicines, and stress. Your provider reviews your history to find what’s most likely behind it.
Can I try Cialis if Viagra stopped working?
Your provider can review what you’ve tried and whether a change makes sense for you. Aspire prescribes sildenafil, the same active ingredient as Viagra®, and tadalafil, the same active ingredient as Cialis®, after an in-person evaluation.
What works when ED pills don’t?
Many men who don’t respond well to pills do well with ED injections. Soundwave Therapy is another option some men consider. Your provider will explain what makes sense for you.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly online or by phone. If you have recent lab work or a list of your medications, bring it along.
Should I see a urologist instead?
Some men should, especially if surgery or cancer care may be involved. See when a urologist or a men’s health clinic makes sense. If you need a urologist, we’ll tell you.
